PARTICIPANTS OF THE FESTIVAL:

Acapella-Keller (Salzburg area, Austria)

The ensemble Acapella-Keller was founded in 2007. Its eight members, all coming from the greater area of Salzburg, sharing a common musical back-ground. In particular, most of the singers were members of the “Liedertafel Obertrum” male choir, which has a long tradition, with numerous concert, CD recordings and competition participations. After a ten-year break, the singers decided to revitalize their favorite pastime: singing, and having hearty meals, and lots of joy together. Acapella-Keller is familiar with various musical traditions, such as folk or church music, as well as classical and popular secular songs. They give concerts a lot in and around Salzburg, and recorded the CD “Weihnachtsklänge”.

Christian Herbst, started his musical career in 1976 as a member of the Salzburg Cathedral Boys Choir. After earning a degree in classical vocal pedagogy at the Uni-versity Mozarteum Salzburg, he worked several years as a singing teacher. Since 2009, Christian Herbst works at the Laboratory of Bio-Acoustics, Department of Cognition, Uni-versity of Vienna. The main focus of Christian Herbst's re-search is on the physiology of the singing voice, as is the vocal coach of Acapella-Keller.

Boghes e Ammentos (Ittiri, Sardinia, Italy)

The male choir’s main mission is to safeguard and introduce the unique Sardinian cultural heritage, with a special attention to music. The group consists of 27 singers, and on the repertory, church hymns and the gems of musica sacra go together well with secular songs, love serenades but, above all, the colourful medleys of folk songs that accompany the Sardinian folk dances. Several songs from the early 1900-ies (Su lussu, Comare, Sa Ninnia, Sostres Res, Su ninnidu, stb) bring us back in time to the “good old days”. Safeguarding the Sardinian language – this is one of the main field of the choir’s activity: they pay special attention to the poetry of Sardinian poets, performing the compositions by their conductor and artistic leader, Piero Murru, who great poems of Sardinian authors (PeppinuMereu, Antioco Casula, Raimondo Pirras) set into music for the choir. Boghes e Ammentos perform always in traditional Sardinian folk costume.

Quintet Quercus (Goriška Brda, Slovenia)

Roughly a year ago, five good friends living in the same little town Goriška Brda, decided to sing together, this is how the Quintet Quercus was born. A year is not a long history for a vocal ensemble, but its members are really experienced singers, coming from different, prestigious Slovenian choirs. Quercus means oak-tree in Latin, simbolising the steadiness of their homeland: West Slovenia, close to the Italian border, known also widely for its excellent wines. The vocal ensemble often performs on different cultural or civil events, on the repertoire there are popular songs, Dalmatian music, but, above all, Slovene folksongs, arrangements.

Members:
Radovan Kumar - tenor 1., Sandi Mervič - tenor 2., Fabijan Hlede - baritone, Bojan Vuga - baritone, Bruno Simčič - bass

Čadež Vladimir - artistic leader
Gabrijela Mugerli – répétiteur

Cantores Minores - The Warsaw Archdiocesan Cathedral Men’s Choir (Poland)

Cantores Minores was founded as a boy’s choir 21 years ago by its present American-born and trained conductor, Joseph A. Herter. Since its foundation, the choir has had concerts in 20 countries, including five tours of the United States of America, and has taken part in 32 festivals both in Poland and abroad. The choir’s one-month coast-to-coast American tour of 2010 saw the choir give 23 concerts As a choir of men and boys it has performed with such prestigious ensembles as the Warsaw National Philharmonic and Sinfonia Varsovia. The chorus has won top prizes in choral competitions in Prague and Międzydroje, and often premiers compositions by well-known Polish composers.

Fehérvár Male Choir (Székesfehérvár, Hungary)

The Fehérvár Male Choir‘s first concert was given in the framework of the 2002 Kodály Anniversary Concerts, in Veszprém. It is quite an unconventional choir, as its singers came from different mixed choirs: of the Kodály Zoltán Secondary School, the Alba Regia Mixed Choir and other Székesfehérvár-based ensembles. The main goal of forming the choir was to revitalize the sometime very popular choir-type, introducing the best of the seldom performed mal choir literature – and with this special flavour, enriching the musical life of the region. The choir often performs in summer opera projects. In the Kodály Zoltán National Choir Competitions they were awarded with silver medal (in the male voice choir category - 2006) and third place (in the equal voice choir category – 2009). The choir is conducted by Kneifel Imre.

Vivat Bacchus (Pécs, Hungary)

The trademark of Vivat Bacchus is good mood and splendid atmosphere – accompanying the sophisticated art of wine-drinking and merry making. This is how they achieved a nation-wide recognition. On the repertoire there are folksongs, arrangements as well as other genres, such as jazz, blues and even rock. How is it possible? The answer is easy: Vivat Bacchus performs most original compositions of their own. In 2011, the vocal ensemble was decorated with the prestigious “Award of Art of the City of Pécs”.

Members: BALÁSY Szabolcs, BOGNÁR Szabolcs, SZENTGYÖRGYVÁRY Gergely, SZENTGYÖRGYVÁRY Károly, SZENTGYÖRGYVÁRY Péter Péter

BorCanto (Pécs, Hungary)

Two young, talented tenors: Horváth, István and Csajághy, Szabolcs, under the direction of Dr Lakner Tamás, united their forces to perform the most beautiful convivial wine songs of the music history. It is particularly important for them to search, find and perform the already forgotten Hungarian wine songs. Due to the efforts of Dr Lakner, who initiated the European and World Convivial Winesong Festivals in 1993 in Pécs and the Villány wine-growing area, this genre is revitalized through the years and gets more and more popular. Their repertoire is characterized by various orchestration (guitar, violin, clarinet, accordion, recorder, lute, etc) and by different genres from folklore to classical music from opera to musical.

BorCanto often appears in the different television channels is Hungary, in prestigious social events, wine-festivals, in Brussels (Euroepan Parliament) and in Transylvania. Their programme seldom ends with the concert-part, as they love to sing together with the audience as well.

Zengő Folk Music Group (Pécs, Hungary)

The Zengő Ensemble seeks relevant contemporary forms for the treasures of traditional music. The interpolation of the dynamic, tight-knit rhythms and the dense sound of this musical world into contemporary sound proves an exciting challenge. The appearance of the dance inserts in the musical pieces bears witness to the high level of this culture and its timeliness for the modern stage. The group which was founded in 1983, has appeared many times on radio and TV, produced five CD-s. Besides collecting, teaching and arranging folk music, the group has performed in concert halls and festivals in Hungary and abroad. The leader of the ensemble is Lajos Bergics.

Ore Miners' Concert Brass Band (Pécs, Hungary)

The Ore Miners' Concert Wind Band has been playing an important role in the music life of Pécs since its foundation in 1957, its spring and autumn concerts as well as the summer promenades being very popular. Ferenc Szabó has been leading the band since 1991, and very soon after, in 1994 the ensemble won the first prize of the Siklós International Competition for Bands. The group regularly takes part in professional qualifying concerts in Hungary as well as abroad. In Burgenland, 1998 they performed with "Merit," while in 1999, at the National Qualification for Bands, they were bestowed the title of "Festival Band," both in the category of Concert Band and also as a Show Band. The Ore Miners' Concert Brass Band has been taking part in the European and World Convivial Wine Song Festivals from the very beginning. The brass arrangements of Ferenc Szabó have been highlights with the united festival-choirs as well as with audiences ever since.

Pécs Symphonietta (Pécs, Hungary)

The institutional reconstruction of the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra in 2003 opened up new perspectives to the musical life of Pécs and the region; it was a major step making the concert season and the repertoire complete. It is unpre-cedented in Hungary that two orchestras work in one institution: the Concert Orchestra of 73 members and the Symphonietta of 22 members.

The Pécs Symphonietta – as a chamber symphonic orchestra – plays an important role in the musical productions of the National Theatre of Pécs. Due to 45 years opera performances at the National Theatre of Pécs the chamber orchestra raises the artistic level of the theatre performances by its rich repertoire and pre-paredness. The Pécs Symphonietta is greatly involved in the musical education of children and young people in the region by giving 52 concerts per year for them in the towns of the three counties. In its future plans symphonic concerts will prevail.

The excellent artists and its structure enable the orchestra to present rarely performed pieces, wherein the instrumentation is between chamber symphony's and symphonic concert orchestra's. Having such an orchestra is the guarantee to introduce high musical values as well as the joy of live concerts as an everyday experience in smaller or bigger towns of the region. Concertmaster is László Gergely.

Pannon Volán Zrt. Béla Bartók Male Choir - Pécs

The choir was founded in 1945, originally as an all-male workers' choir. Dr Tamás Lakner has been conducting the ensemble since 1980. "Bartók Béla" Male Choir – with increasing number of young singers – has achieved remarkable successes, marked with not less than 30 prizes of national and international choir competitions and festivals. In 2006 and in 2008, winning their category, they became Olympic champions of the Choir Olympics in China and in Graz. The choir often performs in oratorios, co-operating with the Pannon Philharmonic Or-chestra. "Bartók Béla" Male Choir has several recordings, among which the one, presenting all the male choir compositions by Kodály Zoltán, was released in 2005, as a world-premiere, by Hungaroton Classics. They have toured throughout Europe, as well as in Canada, the USA, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay as well. The choir serves as the host ensemble of the European and World Convivial Wine Song Festivals.
